چکیده

PURPOSE The aim of this clinical study was to assess the marginal bone around two different types of implant-abutment junctions-a so-called platform-switched assembly and a conventional external-hexagon connection-after 24 months. MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty-five patients were included in this prospective study. All selected patients required the extraction of one or two hopeless teeth in maxillary and mandibular region monoradicular and second premolar teeth, and were randomly assigned to one of two groups. The first group received 34 implants with an external-hexagon junction with the abutment and the second group received 30 implants with platform-switched abutments. Implants were positioned immediately after tooth extraction and were loaded immediately. RESULTS After 24 months, a cumulative survival rate of 100% was reported for all implants. The platform-switching group showed a mean bone loss of 0.78 +/- 0.49 mm and the external-hexagon group showed a mean bone loss of 0.73 +/- 0.52 mm (no statistically significant difference between groups). CONCLUSION The results of this study indicate that implants placed immediately in fresh extraction sockets and loaded immediately represent a predictable procedure, with no differences in bone level changes between "platform-switched" and conventional external-hexagon implants after 24 months.

Platform switching for marginal bone preservation around dental implants: a systematic review and meta-analysis

BACKGROUND: Platform switching for maintaining peri-implant bone levels has gained popularity among implant manufacturers over the last few years. However, the assumption that the inward shifting of the implant-abutment junction may preserve crestal bone was primarily based on serendipitous finding rather than scientific evidence. The objectives of the present study were to systematically revie...

Matched and Platform-Switched Implants - A Prospective Study

of the effect of platform-switching on marginal bone loss (MBL) around dental implants. Forty patients requiring a dental implant in non-grafted partially edentulous mandibles were enrolled and categorized into implants receiving a platform-matched abutment (control group) or implants with a platform-switched abutment (test group). Standardized digital periapical radiographs were taken at the t...

Marginal bone loss around platform-switched and non-platform switched implants after two years of placement: a clinical trial

Background. The present study was conducted to investigate the marginal bone loss around two different types of implant‒abutment junctions, called platform-switched (Implantium system) and non-platform switched (XiVE system) after two years of loading. Methods. Sixty-four implants in 49 patients were included in the study. The implants were placed in the posterior mandibular region according to...

Radiographic evaluation of conical tapered platform‐switched implants in the posterior mandible: 1‐year results of a two‐center prospective study

OBJECTIVE Long-term success of dental implants depends on healthy peri-implant soft tissues and adequate bone levels. This prospective study aims to assess bone level changes around implants with internal conical connection and platform-switching abutments in the posterior mandible. MATERIAL AND METHODS Adult patients missing at least two teeth in the posterior mandible and with a natural too...

A short-term clinical study of marginal bone level change around microthreaded and platform-switched implants

PURPOSE The marginal bone levels around implants following restoration are used as a reference for evaluating implant success and survival. Two design concepts that can reduce crestal bone resorption are the microthread and platform-switching concepts. The aims of this study were to analyze the placement of microthreaded and platform-switched implants and their short-term survival rate, as well...
